The study of the physical remains of ancient Rome is the oldest branch of European archaeology. The speaker will trace the history of how different media have been used to communicate the results reached by leading scholars of the subject from the 15th through 21st century. The media used have ranged from manuscripts and printed books, engravings, and maps to physical and digital models. Dr. Frischer will argue that the medium of Virtual Reality is ideally suited to communicating the results of Roman archaeologists by integrating previously used media into a seamless experience that facilitates both education and scientific discovery.
